On 7 December 2017, the City Hotel in Curaçao was declared bankrupt by the Court of First Instance. The financial problems of the hotel already started one year before it was declared bankrupt, when the rent to the owner of the hotel building, Emmazicht, could not or hardly be met. This is stated in the bankruptcy report of trustee Stan van Liere.

The bankruptcy of City Hotel was widely covered by the local media. On 19 January 2018, local newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad published an article (in Dutch) on what caused the bankruptcy. In December 2017, a few days after the hotel was declared bankrupt, the newspaper published an article on the matter as well. This article is available on their website (in Dutch).
