With a so-called 'groundbreaking ceremony' on the site of the Sint Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos), the construction of the new Hospital Nobo Otrobanda (HNO) has officially started on Thursday 19 December 2013. For the realization of the new hospital, SONA - which is the executing authority for the building project - carried out a tender procedure. This resulted in an agreement with construction company Ballast Nedam Infra BV, with a value of USD 108 mln.
VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne advises SONA on all legal aspects in the complex procedure. Until now, main focus was on procurement, contracting (Design Build & Maintain agreement), permits and financing. New parcels were bought, tenant issues are investigated and the financial close for the actual construction of HNO by means of an integrated contract, is signed. In Q1 of 2014, the plans will be finalized. The construction of HNO will be completed by 31 December 2016.
The new hospital will provide 300 beds, an underground parking with 535 parking spaces and covers a total surface of 40.000 square meters. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Ivar Asjes indicated that the new hospital is "a fundamental change in health care in Curacao". Frank Kunneman heads the team of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne that advised SONA during the preparations for the construction. He says: "Curacao, as a country, is relatively young. With projects such as this hospital, we are working together to build our country. It is a privilege to contribute to such a substantial improvement of the public facilities."
