With more than twenty years of practical experience in handling labor conflicts, Molly Steward is an expert in the field of employment law. She represents, in and out of court both employers – including for instance banks, insurance corporations, hotel chains and airlines – and individual employees.

Molly assists clients in labor disputes and advises them on, for instance, personnel issues in acquisitions and reorganizations, redundancy of employees, negotiations with trade unions, contracts and collective labor agreements. Molly heads, together with counsel Kimberley de l’Isle, the employment law team and the Hospitality & Leisure sector team.

Before Molly entered into the employ of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, she had worked as a coordinator at the foreign department of Banque de Paribas et des Pays Bas in the Netherlands for five years.

Molly lectures employment law at the University of Curacao and (co-) authored various publications. For example, she compiled the Collection of Employment Legislation and Regulations Curacao 2015, which was launched in June 2016 and is the successor of the Collection of Employment Legislation and Regulations Dutch Antilles, which was published in 2007. Furthermore, Molly contributed to the management magazine Coaching with a recurring column, and she provides, as the occasion arises, (co-) notations for the Caribbean Law Journal.

Recent experience

  • Advising Baker Botts LLP as Suriname counsel for their client Halliburton, with regard to the high profile (attempted) acquisition of oil field services company Baker Hughes, including advice on employment law and the applicability of CARICOM and/or ILO regulations.
  • Assisting Marriott regarding the immediate dismissal of various employees, including litigation, due to breach of policies.
  • Assisting Republic Bank in the USD 45.3 mln. acquisition of RBC Royal Bank in Suriname, which included an extensive due diligence covering an onsite and data room review and a complete legal review of bank forms.
  • Advising various hotels – such as the Marriott and Hilton hotels in Curacao, Sunscape Curacao Resort, Sorobon Beach Resort in Bonaire and Curacao Holiday Beach Resort – in a wide range of employment law matters including contracting, dismissal, personnel issues in acquisitions and reorganizations, redundancy of employees, negotiations with unions and collective labor agreements.
