Focco Lunsingh Scheurleer


Focco Lunsingh Scheurleer has over twenty years of experience as an attorney-at-law and advises both lenders and investors on a broad spectrum of matters in the area of banking, finance and business law.

Focco assists financial institutions and market parties in loan and credit facilities to local borrowers and international borrowers. He advises on both structured and syndicated loan facilities as well as capital market transactions (issue of bonds). He also assists clients in preparing collateral documentation. His activities in the area of business law range from advising clients on acquisitions or divestitures of businesses to corporate restructuring. Furthermore, Focco also has ample experience in the field of aviation. He assists clients in the registration and financing of aircrafts and advises on, inter alia, mortgage loans, permits and regulations in this field.

Focco started his career at Trenité Van Doorne in Rotterdam in 1995; at present Simmons & Simmons. In 2000, he was transferred to VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne in Curacao, where he became a managing partner in 2014.

During his career, Focco held several related positions. He was active as a board member of the Curacao International Financial Services Association (CIFA), he was a part-time lecturer in International Private Law at the University of Curacao (UoC) and he was involved in a number of legislation projects.

Recent experience

  • Assisting CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank in the project financing of the expansion of an existing wind farm for NuCuraçao.
  • Advising RBC Merchant Bank and a syndicate of lenders in relation to a USD 59 mln syndicated loan to Servicio di Telecomunicacion di Aruba NV (SETAR).
  • Assisting MeesPierson in the transfer of the complete client portfolio to Orco Bank, as a result of the termination of the private banking activities of MeesPierson in Curaçao.
  • Assisting Export Development Canada and Palma Holding Limited with the acquisition and registration of three aircraft of the Bombardier Q-400 NextGen Series, the lease thereof to Falcon Aviation and the wet lease to Qazaq Air.
