BiographyAlexa Gratama started her career in 1992 as a lawyer for Kienhuis Hoving in Enschede in the Netherlands. At first she mainly worked as a litigator in a civil law practice, later on she specialized in environmental law. In 1999 she moved to Breda, where she joined AKD to operate in the niche field of pesticide law, assisting global market players such as Monsanto and Bayer.
In 2003 Alexa made a career switch and started as a judge in the civil division of the Court of Breda. After two years she moved to Curacao to join the Joint Court of Justice of the Netherlands Antilles & Aruba until 2009.
At the moment she works as an independent legal advisor and NMI certified mediator. She is also active as a substitute judge and will start as an arbitrator for the Arbitration Board for the Building Industry in January 2012. Furthermore she is busy developing new formats for alternative dispute resolution as a more controllable, effective and often cheaper way of dissolving complicated and/or multiparty conflicts.
Since september 2011 Alexa works as a senior advisor at VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne.
