Three new attorneys
No less than three attorneys of the Curacao and Aruba-based lawfirm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne were sworn in at the Joint Court of Justice of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba this week.

Aviation legislation after constitutional changes
On 4 May 2008 the International Institute of Air and Space Law of the University of Leiden (“I.I.A.S.”) organized a conference in Curacao in respect of the consequences of the constitutional changes within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on the aircraft legislation of Curacao. Pursuant to aforementioned constitutional changes the Netherlands Antilles will cease to exist as a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the island of Curacao will become an independent country within the Kingdom.

Attorney Michiel Gorsira returns to Curacao
Michiel Gorsira (1955), who was a partner at the Curacao lawfirm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne until 1997, has rejoined the firm - after a ten year stay in the Netherlands - per May 1. While in the Netherlands he was partner at Simmons & Simmons (formerly Trenité Van Doorne), where he was head of the litigation section.

Central Bank of the Netherlands Antilles has to release 3.5 million
Willemstad – The Central Bank (BNA), has suffered a court defeat in the matters surrounding the seizure of bank accounts by the First Curaçao International Bank (FCIB). Canadian investors will get back the 3.5 million Netherlands Antilles Guilders that had been frozen by the Central Bank.

Electricity and water prices in Curaçao and Aruba
On the Island of Curaçao, Kompania di Produkshon di Awa i Elektrisidat di Korsou (KAE) N.V. (“Aqualectra Production”) and Kompania di Distribushon di Awa i Elektrisidat di Korsou (Kodela) N.V. (“Aqualectra Distribution”) are respectively the sole producer and distributor of water and electricity. On the island, electricity and water prices are determined in the following manner.
