Biography
Laurien Dumas joined VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne in 2001. She left the firm in March 2008 when she moved to New York and rejoined the firm in 2010. Laurien advises multinationals as well as local companies on a broad spectrum of company law, including cross-border acquisitions, mergers and divestments, restructuring, financing and regulatory matters. She has acted as counsel for both financial institutions and local and international borrowers with group members in the Dutch Caribbean, in respect of loan facilities and capital market transactions. Furthermore, she was counsel for the seller in the sale of one of the Netherlands Antilles’ largest insurance companies. Laurien also advised the buyer in connection with the purchase of a Caribbean financial institution with various branches in Curaçao, St. Maarten, Bonaire, Aruba and other Caribbean islands.

Another area of expertise is Aircraft Registration in the Dutch Caribbean. Laurien has assisted numerous aircraft owners as well as finance parties with the registration of aircraft in both the Nationality Register and the Title Register, advice in connection with the local aviation regulations, the preparation of aircraft leasing and security documents and issuing a legal opinion in connection therewith.

Laurien’s activities further encompass Intellectual Property Law. She assisted Nike and Adidas in a large case against local counterfeiters. The case resulted in breakthrough case law in the area of trademark infringement with respect to the import and export of counterfeit goods from the Freezone.

  • Air Lease Corporation with the purchase and transfer of an Airbus aircraft, its re-registration in Aruba and the lease thereof
  • Different purchasers with the purchase of a global trust service provider with offices in Curacao, Aruba, Sint Maarten and Bonaire
