VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne has recently advised the Caribbean branch of RBC Merchant Bank regarding the loan of USD 59 mln that RBC has provided to Setar, the Aruban telecom company. RBC and Setar agreed on the loan on 30 September 2014 already, but did not announce this until mid November. This was reported by Antilliaans Dagblad (Antillian Daily) on 14 November.

VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne has donated 69 Christmas presents for the ‘A Christmas present for every child’ charity initiative of Dolfijn.fm; the radio station in Curacao. Interns Gaia Bor and Vilijam Georgiev brought the presents to the radio station on Friday 19 December and explained why VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne was happy to contribute to the initiative.

VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne has closed the year on Bonaire by lighting a traditional pagara (fireworks). This tradition on the islands of the Dutch Caribbean is meant to enhance prosperity in the upcoming year. Newspaper Extra reported on the pagara, which you can read here (clipping in Papiamentu).

On Thursday 20 November, VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne organized the annual Day of the Supervisory Board on Curacao. This year, the central theme was the remuneration of supervisors, and finding the right balance in that regard. Managing partner Focco Lunsingh Scheurleer moderated the seminar, and speakers included Frank Kunneman, Kimberley de l ‘Isle, Robbert Kroon and Wendell Meriaan (Tax Partner KPMG).

On 6 November, VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne and PwC St. Maarten (PwC) organized a follow-up seminar of the ’Boardroom Essentials’ event that was organized in June this year. The feedback and requests received at that time encouraged the organizations to continue with sessions covering similar (sub)topics. This sequel was subtitled ’Are you in control’. This indicated the objective of the afternoon: support board members and regulators to meet the challenges of their critical roles nowadays.

Bonaire has an increasing number of initiatives to develop the island in a sustainable fashion. In order to stimulate these initiatives, law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne organized a seminar on forms of cooperation in sustainable projects. Under the direction of lawyer Tom Peeters, who runs the Bonaire office of the firm, attendants exchanged ideas about the various possibilities in an interactive fashion. Peeters specializes in real estate and project development, and knows the tricks of this subject-matter.

The recruitment campaign launched by law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne earlier this year has resulted in three new lawyers for the firm. After Brian Zending and Raoul Profijt in Curacao, the third and last lawyer also starts at the Bonaire office with the employment of Tessa Breugom.

In agriculture, solar energy, livestock farming and wastewater, public and private parties are working together, persuading the people of Bonaire to get involved.
