The Day of the Supervisory Board 2013 – organized by VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, The Galan Group and Linkels & Partners – was widely reported in the media. The recommendations that Frank Kunneman included in his lecture were discussed in Antilliaans Dagblad (Antillian Daily) on 3 December. For instance, Frank advised to make more use of external supervisors and he discussed several possible improvements for the Code Corporate Governance. Antilliaans Dagblad (Antillian Daily) today reports that KPMG has been appointed for advising in the ‘Future of the Refinery’ program in Curacao. KPMG has been selected after a tender process by the Refineria di Korsou, and will guide two working groups that will present different scenarios for the future of the refinery after 2019. VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne is part of the KPMG team as their legal advisor. Randolph van Eps is also a member of the committee itself. Download the clippings here and here (in Dutch).

On 26 November, Frank Kunneman was welcomed again at radio programme Hoyer in Business on (Dutch spoken) Radio Hoyer 2. Last month, he discussed external supervision of companies and government in the same radio programme. This time, Frank discussed supervision on pension insurance with guests from Central Bank and Vidanova. The complete portfolio of loans and securities of MeesPierson have been transferred to Orco Bank last week, due to the termination of the private banking activities of MeesPierson in Curacao. MeesPierson was advised in this matter by Focco Lunsingh Scheurleer, Natasha Joubert and Sabine Altena of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne. Judge P. van Schendel has ruled in favor of the plaintiffs on 25 November by his verdict that the Court in Curacao is authorized to handle the case with regard to the oil spill last year at Jan Kok. The Venezuelan state oil company PdVSA is one of the defendants in the case and had raised the question whether the Court was authorized to rule in this matter. The plaintiffs, “Stichting Monumentenzorg” (Foundation for the preservation of historic buildings and sites) and Sea Shore Properties, are represented by Rogier van den Heuvel of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne. The case is expected to be heard in court on 6 January 2014, and a verdict is expected in April 2014. At the end of October, Brechtje Huiskes and Len Huard were sworn in by the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba. Len and Brechtje both work as a trainee attorneys at law at VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne.

Lotte Dunnink, junior associate at VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne in Bonaire, was sworn in as an attorney on 14 November. That makes her the fourth junior associate of the firm that has been sworn in this year by the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, St. Maarten and of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba.
