On 4 May 2008 the International Institute of Air and Space Law of the University of Leiden (“I.I.A.S.”) organized a conference in Curacao in respect of the consequences of the constitutional changes within the Kingdom of the Netherlands on the aircraft legislation of Curacao. Pursuant to aforementioned constitutional changes the Netherlands Antilles will cease to exist as a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the island of Curacao will become an independent country within the Kingdom.

On 22 May 2008 Aruba has entered into a Customs Preclearance Agreement with the United States of America. Pursuant to this Agreement, Aruba has the authority to pre-clear private aircraft itself and their passengers travelling to United States before physically entering the United States. The pre-cleared flights will be regarded as domestic flights by the United States customs.
