First 'Inhouseday' on Curacao for future practioners
On May 9th, law office VanEps, Kunneman Van Doorne organized the first “Inhouse Day” for sixth grade vwo students who will be starting their law studies in the coming academic year.
In the stately office at the Julianaplein managing partner Frank Kunneman gave a presentation entitled “What is a lawyer”, after which the students worked on a case. Divided in a few groups, they debated about the topics “The future of the Isla” and “The 80-20 proposition”, in the presence of their deans. The discussions were passionate and inspired, proving that these pupils had made the right choice.
Dean Cor Hameete from the Peter Stuyvesant College: ‘This is a great, but unfortunately rare initiative on the island. Sessions like this one should be organized more often by local firms, to inform students about what to expect. I will certainly stimulate the pupils of my school to participate in future events like this’
Veronica Perozo Alberti, sixth grade student of the Radulphus College, will be studying in Tilburg. ‘It was an interesting and fun event, that gave us a clear view of what the work of a law practitioner is like. I really look forward to starting my studies, but first of all I will have to study hard for my final examination, which will be starting next Thursday.’
Roushaira Alexander, law student in Rotterdam and organizer of this event as part of her practical training at VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne: ‘students in Curacao often have a very vague idea of what they will be studying. This is a good way to get acquainted with their future studies.’ The alumnus from the Radulphus College is currently employed at the Dutch Caribbean Desk of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne in Amsterdam.
After this successful first edition of the Inhouse Day, our law office is planning to organize this event on a more frequent basis.
