On Thursday 16 February, law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne played host to twenty-three students of the civil law student association Diephuis from Groningen. They visited the Curaçao office of the firm as part of a study trip to the island. During this trip, which includes visits to the court and several law firms, the students get acquainted with the island and the legal profession in the Dutch Caribbean.

NuCuraçao Beheer B.V., as a shareholder in the wind farms in Curaçao, and Algemeen Pensioenfonds Curaçao (APC) recently reached an agreement on financing worth ANG 13,500,000 in total to strengthen the company’s capital in order to enable further investments.

On 19 January 2017, restaurant Bistro Le Clochard was declared bankrupt by the Court of First Instance of Curaçao. The bankruptcy was announced via an advertisement in newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad on Saturday 21 January 2017. Attorney at law Stan van Liere of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne has been appointed as bankruptcy trustee, and states that the restaurant was declared bankrupt at their own request.

On Thursday 1 December 2016, VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne organized the twelfth edition of the Day of the Supervisory Board on Curaçao. The focus of this year was on risk management. This subject is gaining increasing attention within corporate governance worldwide. However, it often remains unclear what risk management exactly is and what the responsibilities of the executives and supervisors in this area are. This has been changed with the help of three experts in the field of good governance and risk management during this year's Day of the Supervisory Board.

The General Audit Chamber Curaçao is not authorized to investigate the books of United Telecommunications Services (UTS). The Joint Court of Justice has confirmed this in appeal on Tuesday 10 January. The Court of First Instance already ruled identically on 21 March of last year. UTS was represented successfully by Frank Kunneman and Aubrich Bakhuis of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne.

Aubrich Bakhuis yesterday explained the Heads of Agreement that were negotiated with Guangdong Zhenrong Energy regarding the exploitation of the Isla refinery on Curaçao, at local radio station Paradise FM. The Chinese energy company will be leasing and operating the oil refinery as from 2019. Aubrich is attorney at law at VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, and is a member of the multi-disciplinary project team that has been advising the government on the future of the refinery since 2013. With the first walk-in office hours on Wednesday 19 October, VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne has launched a new concept: Legal spot. A support program for startups, with free legal advice via monthly office hours. For this purpose, the firm started a cooperation with Workspot Curaçao.
