In May 2008, a new legal website was launched, providing general information on the legal system of the Dutch Caribbean. The site is an initiative of a number of Netherlands Antilles law firms, including VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne.
Building and Zoning Regulations on Bonaire (Dutch Antilles) – Construction Boom on the Island
On or about 22 April 2008, a local newspaper in the Netherlands Antilles published an article regarding the denial of a request for a building permit on Bonaire. The Island Executive of Bonaire refused to grant a building permit for the construction of condominiums on the renowned oceanfront of Punt Vierkant. Apparently, several residents of Punt Vierkant objected to the construction plan.
Michiel Gorsira rejoins VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne as Partner
Michiel Gorsira, who was a partner of our firm until July 1997, rejoined VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne as per May 1, 2008, after a 10 year stay in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, Michiel Gorsira was a partner of Trenité van Doorne and subsequently Simmons & Simmons until his return to the Netherlands Antilles in May 2008.

Venezuela alleges violation of Foreign Investment Treaty with Dutch Kingdom
On April 22 2008, the Netherlands-Antilles national newspaper “Antilliaans Dagblad” carried an article regarding oil multinationals allegedly abusing a Netherlands-Venezuela bilateral investment treaty by conducting their Venezuelan operations trough Dutch subsidiaries. The Venezuelan Minister of Energy and Oil Rafael Ramírez had stated that ExxonMobil, China National Petroleum Company and Eni Dacion favored from this investment treaty between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Venezuela. According to Ramírez, it is illegal for oil companies to conduct their operations through Dutch subsidiaries solely for this purpose and therefore he has announced to go to court.
VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne in Dutch Trade Mission to Brazil

New free road map not unlawful
Kris Kras Publishing prevailed in the legal proceedings that were initiated by Caribbean Cartographics. Some time ago, Kris Kras Publishing introduced the free road map Smart D®iving Road Map Curaçao. According to Caribbean Cartographics, this was all thanks to the information provided by two individuals previously employed by them.
